(Phantoms Ruby Allen scores a hat-trick)

It’s been a few weeks since the Phantoms got a solid point away to Cardiff. They wanted to do one better in this game and went out hard looking for the win.

It did not take long for the Phantoms to open the scoring when defencewoman Stacie Horn’s beautiful pass found Hana Meszarosova who very calmly fired it past the Coventry netminder.

After 11 minutes of play Ruby Allen got her first of the game with a lovely solo effort. Allen sped down the ice and was first to the puck, she then used her skill to place the puck where the netminder could not stop it.

Coventry did not lose hope and managed to get a goal back with Victoria Brentville being the scorer. The first period ended 2-1 and it was just the start of what was an incredible game.

With the second period beginning the Phantoms continued to dominate Coventry. After a long build up from the Phantoms, Hana Meszarosova passed the puck across the ice to Sara Dawson who showed no hesitation and got her first goal of the season.

Not only were the Phantoms outstanding with their attacks, they showed resilience and kept Coventry from scoring in the second period. When the period came to a close, the Phantoms lead 3-1.

The third and final period was the best of all. With the Phantoms being on a power play, they took full advantage of the player advantage. Hana Meszarosova picked up the puck in the defensive zone, flew past the Coventry players and got her second goal.

Tamara Hazel got a goal for the away side against the run of play. This seemed to give Coventry some momentum and they pushed forward looking to challenge the Phantoms. Although they worked hard, Coventry could not cope with the pressure the Phantoms put on them.

Emily Lock won the puck in the defensive zone and saw an opening. She played a beautiful pass through to Ruby Allen who Coventry just couldn’t cope with. Allen took on what seemed to be the whole of the Coventry team and won. She scored her second of the game but was finished there. Allen completed her hat-trick with a terrific solo effort when she chased down a loose pass.

Overall, a triumphant day for the Phantoms winning 6-2.

Player of the match was awarded to Captain Sara Dawson.

Our next game is at home on the 23rd April against Oxford.
