The Phantoms travelled to Oxford with an almost full squad after a recent outbreak of coronavirus within the team.

It was an electric start for the Phantoms with Hana Meszarosova winning the face off and skating straight into the Oxford zone. She wrapped it around the goal and slotted the puck home to stun Oxford. The Phantoms lead after just 9 seconds.

The Phantoms continued to press the Oxford defence and forcing some good saves from the Oxford netminder Teagan Hyatt.

Oxford levelled the score with a goal from Megan Metcalfe assisted by Nikola Zabinska. The first period ended with the score level.

The Phantoms were not phased by the equaliser and worked hard at the start of the second period. Their hard work paid off when Ruby Allen took the puck into the zone and fired a shot past the netminder into the bottom right corner, giving the Phantoms the lead again.

The second period ended with the Phantoms in front.

With the third period beginning, the Phantoms were looking to pile on the pressure on Oxford to secure the win. That is exactly what they did. The Phantoms highlighted not only their skills going forward but the teams drive to get back and support the defence.

Forwards Ruby Allen and Jo Saville worked beautifully together and did not give up on getting the goal. After a few saves from the Oxford netminder, Jo Saville’s perfect positioning allowed her to have a tap in and add to the Phantoms goal tally making the score 1-3 in favour of the away side.

The Phantoms did not stop there with defender Emily Lock skating the length of the ice and managing to get the puck to Saara Karvonen who scored the final goal of the game.

The score ended 1-4 in favour of the away side the Peterborough Phantoms.

Player of the match was awarded to Jo Saville and Spirit of the game was presented to Sophie Heather.
