Phantoms continue their unbeaten run with an impressive win against Coventry

Phantoms continue their unbeaten run with an impressive win against Coventry in the first home game of the season.


The game started quickly for both sides with attacks on both netminders. It was Coventry to draw first blood and take an early lead.


This only made the Phantoms work even harder. It didn’t take long for Hana Meszarosova to drive into the attacking zone and fire the puck into the top left corner.

Both sides were eager to get the next goal. The Phantoms defence held strong. A pass from Josie Milton’s gave Hana Meszarosova the opportunity to bag her second of the game.


When defence women Emily Lock decided to go forward, there was no stopping her. Although her shot was saved by the netminder, the rebound was met by Ruby Allen who slotted it home for the Phantoms.


Coventry got one back just before the end of the first making it 3-2 at the end of the first period.


The Phantoms started the second period strong and pushed Coventry to their limits. A pass from the face off a pass met Sarah Rees who fired the puck through a screen of players.


The Phantoms continued to strike when Hana Meszarosova played the perfect pass to Sara Karvonen who outwitted the Coventry defence and added to the Phantoms lead.

Whilst on the power play, captain Hana Meszarosova again team with Sara Karvonen who added a second goal to her tally.


Coventry could not break through the Phantoms defence in the period. The defence and netminder impressive play led to a shut out in the second period.


Phantoms lead 6-2 at the end of the second period.


Netminder Abi Boxall came on in the third making her debut for the season. Abi showed her skill a calmness in the net throughout the period making a number of impressive saves.


Hana Meszarosova picked up the puck and drove forward with a 2 on 1 with the defence and secured her hatrick.


Coventry tried their luck with several shots, but they were no match for the Phantoms defence and netminder.


The final score ended 7-2, extending the Phantoms unbeaten run to 3.


Player of the match for the Phantoms was netminder Abi Boxall.


The Phantoms next game is at home against Oxford on the 18th December.
