Phantoms host Cardiff Comets looking to get back to winning ways after the game against top of the league Swindon. The first home game of the New Year for the Phantoms and they knew it would be a tough one.
The game started quickly for both sides with the netminders being challenged straight away. The Phantoms played some exciting hockey and were rewarded for their efforts when Ruby Allen ripped through the Cardiff defence and opened the scoring for the Phantoms.

This was shortly followed by Phantoms defence woman Elouise Porter adding to the goal tally when she won the puck in the defensive zone, showed her skill and sped down the ice before firing it past the Cardiff netminder.

Cardiff continued to put the pressure on the Phantoms but they were unable to get through the defence and netminder. The first period ended with the Phantoms winning 2-0.
With the second period beginning, the Phantoms were looking to continue with their impressive start to the game. They did not disappoint and had a stunning 22 shots on the Cardiff goal. The Cardiff netminder Mackenzie Macnamara had an outstanding period and made some amazing saves to deny the Phantoms.
However, the Phantoms did not give up! Kodie Duguid picked up the puck just inside the attacking zone. Seeing the opportunity to shoot, Kodie fired the puck into the top left corner of the goal leaving no chance for the Cardiff netminder. The second period came to a close and the Phantoms were leading 3-0.

Cardiff came out strongly at the start of the third period looking to get back into the game. They were rewarded for their efforts when Megan Blake scored Cardiff’s first goal making it 3-1.
The Cardiff goal seemed to fire up the Phantoms as they continued to press. Whilst in the attacking zone, Laura Broadley passed the puck to Hana Meszarosova who took a shot on goal. Phantoms Saara Karvonen was in the perfect position to get the extra touch the puck needed to take it past the Cardiff netminder and extend the Phantoms lead.

Cardiff added one more goal to their tally being scored by Jessica Thomas.
The game ended 4-2 and the Peterborough Phantoms are back to winning ways. The perfect way to start 2022 at home.

The Phantoms next game is away to Cardiff on the 20th March.
